When Jaimie and Jon invited Hivehouse Co. to reimagine their en suite, they dreamed of a retreat that felt moody, modern, and deeply personal. What unfolded is a perfect reflection of our Simplified Living philosophy—a sanctuary where intentional design choices create not just beauty, but balance.
A Bedroom That Feels Like a Deep Cocooned Hug
We chose Sherwin-Williams’ Sable to color-drench the bedroom, saturating the walls and trim in this rich, enveloping hue. With southeast-facing windows, this color shifts beautifully throughout the day—subtle warmth in the morning light, moody depth in the afternoon shadows. Layered with floor-to-ceiling curtains, the room transforms into a dark and subtle nest, softening the sunlight and wrapping the space in a sense of intimacy.
Every finish was chosen to enhance this feeling of sanctuary. Warm brass wall sconces cast a golden glow at night, while layered pillows from The Carpenter’s Daughter in Waco add tactile comfort. Handmade clay pottery and sculptural metal accents from Simply Irresistible in Waco brought artisanal texture and personality, proof that meaningful pieces sourced with intention always elevate a space.
The Heart of the Design: Tile & Texture
The bathroom’s entire vision began with one material—a striking star-cross tile that became the anchor point for the design. From there, layers of stone, brass, and glass told the rest of the story. The arched tub shelf with integrated LED lighting became a show-stopping moment, where craftsmanship meets creativity.
Our contractor, Petricka Construction, gave the arch a raw-edge tile finish, grounding the curve with a tactile, hand-hewn detail that honors imperfection as part of beauty. It’s one of those subtle touches that instantly gives a space soul.
Old Meets New in the Bath
The bathroom hardware is as captivating as the tile itself. The warm brass exposed rain showerhead pairs timeless elegance with modern function, proving that old-world finishes can live beautifully alongside contemporary design. Together, these details strike the balance we strive for at Hivehouse Co.—spaces that feel both rooted and refreshed.
A Touch of Nature in the Shower
One subtle but powerful detail you can add to your bath space is plants. Beyond their beauty, greenery in a bathroom reflects the heart of Simplified Living—bringing nature into daily routines, fostering mindfulness, and reminding us to slow down. It’s a small choice that makes a significant impact, turning a simple shower into a grounding ritual.
